Congress accuses PM Modi of hate speech in Rajasthan, demands EC action

The Congress demanded that the Election Commission take action against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday for telling voters to click the "lotus" button as if doing so would be giving the Congress the "death sentence" and accused him of making a hate speech in Rajasthan, which is scheduled to have elections soon.

"You have the chance to discipline them. To guarantee their punishment, press the lotus-symbol button. At an electoral rally in Barmer, Rajasthan, Modi said, "Jaise unhe phansi de rahe ho, aise kamal ke nishaan pe batan dabao (Press the button with the lotus symbol as if you are sentencing them to death)."

Modi wrote in Hindi on X, "Jab nash manuj pe chhata hai, pahle vivek marr jata hai (sanity deserts man before destruction)".

Citing the Prime Minister's address in Barmer, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh warned that the state's people would not put up with such "arrogance."

"Prime Minister Modi's remarks make it clear that he despises Congress leaders. How can the prime minister, or anybody in a position of authority, advocate hanging people by their votes? Ramesh said, "The Prime Minister is suffocating democracy."

"This is blatant hate speech, to be sure. The Congressman said, "The Election Commission should take urgent notice of this and take stern measures if it is serious about fair and free elections. "Prime Minister Modi's arrogance will undoubtedly face backlash from the public during the elections."

In an effort to punish the Congress in the next Assembly elections, Modi asked voters to punish the party, accusing it of corruption and "appeasement policies" and claiming that terrorists and rioters always find support when their party is in power.
