CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury Calls for Immediate Implementation of Women's Reservation in Legislatures

Sitaram Yechury, the general secretary of the CPI(M), stated that it was essential to establish women's reservation in state and federal legislatures as soon as possible.

He added that women's quotas have been anticipated for 25 years and questioned whether "it will be implemented by 2034" while speaking to reporters on this day.

Journalists questioned Yechury when he arrived at this airport and asked him questions about the state-level training camp of the CPI(M), which he will attend on Thursday.

When the Bill was previously presented to the Rajya Sabha, concerns about distinct quotas for SCs, STs, and OBCs were voiced. These were not resolved. The administration must directly address these issues, according to Yechury, a former member of the Upper House, in response to the Lok Sabha's passage of the most recent Bill.

The country has been waiting for women's reservations for 25 years, he added. Currently, provisions like the Census and delimitation leave us wondering if it will be put into effect by 2034. That also requires an explanation from the government. In response to a question, the CPI(M) national secretary further stated that he will meet with both Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD President Lalu Prasad, both of whom are his partners in the opposition INDIA coalition, before returning from Bihar.

However, he declined to answer questions regarding his party's choice to not send a representative to INDIA's coordinating committee.
