Former South Africa bowler Dale Steyn believes that India's Jasprit Bumrah has eliminated the pitch from the equation on his path to become a legendary due to his unusual motion, toe-crushing yorkers, and unsettling velocity.
"At the moment, I don't believe there are any Test bowlers that can rush in and basically deliver yorkers that take wickets. There are definitely a few people who are capable of taking wickets in Test matches. Maybe Mitchell Starc was one of them, along with Trent Boult. And Bumrah, of course," Steyn said on Friday.
I once said that a good yorker bowled in Australia, South Africa, or India still retains its quality when the surface is removed, regardless of the bowling location.
"I believe that's one thing that he's done incredibly well—you take away the pitch.
Overall, he is an excellent bowler. And given his clumsy behavior, it's not surprising that he has that. He's amazing; he gets wickets on those gentle surfaces," Steyn said.
