Deepti Sharma's Heroics Not Enough as UP Warriorz Fall Short Against Gujarat Giants
Despite Deepti's Brilliant Unbeaten Knock, Warriorz Succumb to Giants' Pressure in Women's Premier League Encounter
Despite recording her third consecutive 50-plus score, spinner Deepti Sharma (88 not out) could not salvage UP Warriorz's eight-run loss to Gujarat Giants in Monday's Women's Premier League match.
After seven overs, the Warriorz were struggling at 35/5 in response to the Giants' 152/8, with Andhra medium-pacer Shabnam MD striking three times. Poonam Khemnar (36 not out) proved to be a useful ally for Deepti, but in the end, they had a bit too much work to do as the Warriorz scored 144/5.
To be eligible for the postseason, the Warriorz must lose to the Royal Challengers Bangalore against the Mumbai Indians on Tuesday.
The Giants were put through a difficult spell earlier by Deepti, Sophie Ecclestone, and Rajeshwari Gayakwad, but captain Beth Mooney's unbroken 74 gave them some breathing room.
In 20 ovs, GG Women scored 152/8 in brief. Mooney, B. 74 n.o. 144/5 in 20 ovs for UP Warriorz Women (D. Sharma 88 n.o.; Shabnam MD 3/11). It was GG Women by 8 runs.
