Elephant Attacks Leave Two Dead and One Injured in West Bengal
Alipurduar and Darjeeling districts were the scenes of two separate elephant attacks on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of two people and injuries to one more.
In separate elephant attack instances that occurred on Saturday in the districts of Darjeeling and Alipurduar, two people perished and one person managed to escape with injuries.
A wild elephant arrived in Bagdogra, around 14 kilometers from Siliguri, from the neighboring Bengdubi forest.
Natunpara resident Dilip Roy, forty, got very near to the elephant. The creature threw him forcefully to the ground after enveloping him in its trunk.
Dilip was declared dead at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital after locals hurried him there.
A crew from the Kurseong Forest Division's Bagdogra Forest Range arrived at the location as word got out. They said that at around six in the morning, the elephant—a lone tusker—entered Bagdogra's Masjidpara. After that, it ventured into Bhujiapani and Natunpara.
The elephant was found by foresters.
The army cantonment location of Bengdubi is where the elephant has sought sanctuary. We are closely monitoring it. The relatives of the victim will get payment shortly," a forester said.
When Binu Roy, 40, of Chapaguri Forest Village, went to the Dhumchi Forest Area to get firewood in Alipurduar, she was assaulted by an elephant.
Her corpse was found by police and foresters. Forest authorities said that because she entered a reserve forest area, her family would not be compensated.
An elephant assaulted Rabindra Barman, a resident of Kumargram Block, while he was on his way back from the Sankosh River.
The event had place in the east of the Buxa Tiger Reserve in the Chengmari beat area. To avoid the elephant, a wounded Barman took refuge behind a bush. He was later admitted to Kamakhyaguri's block health center.
