An official said on Tuesday that one individual who was reportedly acting as a middleman in a West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) recruitment scam has been apprehended by sleuths from the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The individual was arrested after at least ten hours of questioning and searches by the ED agents at his home and workplace in the New Town. He was previously detained by the CBI in the same matter in 2022 and then released, he said.

He was taken into custody late on Monday night. There is proof that he served as an intermediary in the fraud. The ED officer said, "He will be produced at a city court today."

The Supreme Court granted bail to the defendants after the CBI's 2022 arrest.

He also said that the ED began searching a Jute Mill owner's office on Monday in connection with the unpaid provident fund dues scheme.

He added that the ED officials stormed the owner of the Jute Mill's office and house in Sankrail and Ballygunge, respectively, accompanied by a sizable contingent of central police. He further said that the amount of outstanding PF dues has increased to Rs 21 crore.
