The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) called for Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's resignation on Monday, citing him as responsible for the train tragedy that occurred in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.

The accident claimed 14 lives.

According to the Congress, there seems to be a recurrence of the June 2 train tragedy at Balasore in Andhra Pradesh.

The Congress stated that accidents were caused by the signal system's flaw in both instances.

"Two major accidents have taken place in a span of five months," senior Congress lawmaker and former minister Panchanan Kanungo remarked, speaking to the media. There are currently no initiatives underway to upgrade the railroads' signal system or train infrastructure.

"The railway minister is concentrating on operating Vande Bharat Express trains in order to acquire cheap popularity, rather than working on this front. The minister of railways ought to accept responsibility for the mishap and step down.

According to Prashant Satpathy, a spokesman for Congress, there have been eighteen train incidents in 2022–2023.

The mishaps were caused by improper upkeep of digital signal systems and railroad rails. Attempts are being made to privatize certain railway works, rather than enhancing the infrastructure.

According to the source, the reason for both rail accidents—at Bahanaga in the Odisha district of Balasore on June 2 and at Kantakapalli in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday—was a malfunction in the signal system's operation.

The Waltair Division of the East Coast Railway in Andhra Pradesh is suspected of being the cause of the train catastrophe, according to the East Coast Railway (ECoR). This is because signals may have been overshot.

According to a media release from the ECoR, "the likely reason is overshooting of signals by the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada passenger train."

Sudam Marandi, the revenue minister for Odisha, visited the scene of the accident on Monday. He examined the disaster site's relief and rescue efforts.
