Glenn Maxwell, a rising star in the white-ball format, hasn't "given up" on playing Test cricket just yet.

The Sydney Morning Herald cited Maxwell as saying, "I haven't given up on Tests," upon his arrival here following his release from the T20I squad currently competing in India.

"I believe I just need to be reasonable with the timings that I've been using to play white-ball cricket."

The white-ball specialist has only played seven matches in the longest format of his career—his last coming in 2017—since making his Test debut against India in Hyderabad in 2013. He has eight wickets at 42.62 and a batting average of 26.07.

Maxwell's inclusion in their Test team for the three-match home series against Pakistan that kicks off in Perth on December 14 is still up in the air.

"It's simply the way it's gone over the last ten years of my career really—you play a World Cup and then you don't play any Shield cricket, or you play at the end of summer in white ball and you don't play any Shield cricket."

Maxwell will do well in the longest format of the game, according to Matthew Wade, who is captaining Australia in the current Twenty20 International series against India. Regarding Maxwell's level of tiredness, Wade stated, "I think it is just mentally and a little bit physically, he has come back from quite a bad injury."
