Happy Gilmore Sequel Confirmed for Netflix with Adam Sandler Returning
Adam Sandler as Happy Gilmore

The 1996 comedy Happy Gilmore will have a sequel, which Netflix has revealed is in the works. Adam Sandler will play the title character, a furious golfer, once again.

"Happy return of Gilmore! In a brand-new film that will be available on Netflix, Adam Sandler will reprise his legendary role, the streamer announced on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.

On her talk program, actress Drew Barrymore hinted at the announcement lately, telling listeners, "I have breaking news...I'll just mention that Happy Gilmore 2 is being worked on.

One of Sandler's most well-known films, directed by Dennis Dugan, tells the narrative of a failed ice hockey player who takes up golf and enters a tournament to keep his grandmother's house from going into foreclosure. Carl Weathers, Julie Bowen, and Christopher McDonald all had significant roles in the comedy written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy.

The first film's cast is supposedly returning for the impending sequel, but several of the actors—Carl Weathers as Chubbs and Frances Bay as Grandma Gilmore—have since died away.

With a US$250 million Netflix deal, Sandler has created eight shows for the platform, including the critically praised stand-up special 100% Fresh, the dramedy Sandy Wexler, and the Western satire The Ridiculous Six. The teen comedy You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, which debuted on Netflix in August of last year, was his most recent project.

Except for the headline, this story has not been edited by Press Time staff and has been published from a syndicated feed.
