HEC Employees Protest in Delhi for Revival of PSU and Payment of Back Wages

On Thursday, more than 200 employees of the struggling PSU Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC), based in Ranchi, held a dharna on Jantar Mantar Road in Delhi to call for the PSU's resurrection and the payment of back wages.

Mahua Maji, a JMM Rajya Sabha member, attended the dharna. In the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, she brought up the problem of salaries that had been unpaid at the HEC for 18 months.

Mahua Maji was prompted to provide evidence by Jagdeep Dhankhar, the chairman of the Rajya Sabha. Maji endorsed the idea.

Mahua Maji arrived in the morning to show support for the demands of HEC employees and remained until midday, according to Ajay Singh, general secretary of the CPI Ranchi, who was organizing the dharna. We sent her the supporting documentation for the recommendations made by the legislative standing committee in 2017–18 and the Rajya Sabha panel in 2022, and she later turned it in to the secretariat for the Rajya Sabha.

Singh added that the legislative panel had advised last year that the ministry undertake coordinated efforts to better the HEC's status and, if necessary, seek extra funding for the PSU.

At the dharna, a number of INDIA leaders were present.
