A hooch tragedy on Sunday in the parched Bihar district of Muzaffarpur left at least two people dead and two others blind.

As the police and district administration went door-to-door looking for persons who had been unwell after consuming illegal alcohol, the number of affected people could grow even more.

All those who were harmed had drank local booze on Friday and Saturday. After drinking for a few hours, they began to experience nausea, headaches, stomachaches, dizziness, breathing difficulties, and deteriorating vision. On Sunday morning, two of them passed away.

The families of the victims claimed that their loved ones had purchased alcohol from a local ice plant that was actually a front for selling alcohol.

"We learned that two people died in strange circumstances and that two more people were ill in Ambedkar Colony at Pokhariya Pir. Locals have suggested that the deaths could have been caused by illegal, fake alcohol, according to preliminary investigations, said Muzaffarpur SSP Rakesh Kumar.
