Mahua Moitra Defies Rumors of Expulsion, Vows to Continue Fighting for 30 More Years

Mahua Moitra, the MP for Trinamul, replied to rumors on Wednesday night that the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee had allegedly suggested her removal from the lower House for "unethical conduct" and "Contempt of the House" in her characteristic combative manner, stating the action would only motivate her to fight more.

"I still have thirty years to live in politics. I'll battle them in the trenches for the next five years if that means it's necessary. Speaking to The Telegraph from her Lok Sabha seat of Krishnagar, an unrepentant Moitra said, "I will wear my expulsion like a badge of honour."

Late on Wednesday night, it was alleged that the Adani group-owned NDTV network was the only one to "access" the ethics panel findings. Shortly after NDTV aired their "scoop," Moitra tweeted, "Happy to see Adani TV Has a copy of the Unethical Standing Committee report BEFORE it is placed before the committee tomorrow."

Trinamul has not yet expressed its opinion on the matter, and it is irrelevant how the party would react if Moitra is dismissed.

Hours after BJP politician Nishikant Dubey said on X that Lokpal, the anti-corruption panel, had requested a CBI investigation against Moitra's alleged misconduct, Moitra was earlier seen kicking a football in Nadia.

"I played a little and scored a goal in a seven-a-side football tournament that I attended in my constituency, which had sixteen teams participating," Moitra said over the phone to The Telegraph from Nakashipara, which is located in Nadia, around 140 kilometers from Calcutta.

In addition to making a mocking allusion to the anti-corruption commission, which many believe has fallen short of expectations, Moitra once again turned her guns on Dubey, who has been under criticism for allegedly forging his educational credentials.

"I'm overjoyed to hear that Lokpal is still alive and healthy. However, in order for the Lokpal office to be credible, I would hope that it produces its own press releases, assuming it is really operating at all. Not much confidence can be ascribed to the source's pronouncements when he misled on his election declaration and falsified his own degrees, Moitra added.

Moitra made a reference to Dubey's post on X, wherein he discussed the alleged CBI investigation. But there was no formal statement from the Lokpal.

The news of the alleged CBI investigation didn't seem to bother Moitra, according to people close to the investment banker-turned-politician, who is facing accusations that she asked questions in the Lok Sabha to target the Adani group at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for money. Moitra was kept busy with a number of political and outreach programs in her constituency.

Moitra oversaw the establishment of the Sthayee Samiti of the panchayat samiti in Krishnagar-I block early in the morning. She later attended the football event after holding two open forums in Nadia at Dhubulia and Shondanga.

Moitra was not depressed by the rumour that the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee was expected to recommend Moitra's removal from the lower House after adopting its draft report on the cash-for-query charges on Thursday, according to a source.

"I have more than 30 years remaining in me to serve in politics, and I will use every spare minute to expose the largest scam Adani, with Modiji's approval, is pulling on the Indian people. Let the BJP go at it, I say. You are undermining the soul of our nation. You have gone beyond all bounds in your corruption. I won't stop till we see your demise. We are unaffected by any of your pitbulls or CBIs. Moitra said, "I'm a member of Mamata Banerjee's party.

She had before said on X that the CBI need to open a FIR in order to look into the Adani group's purported coal fraud. "For the media calling me — my answer: 1. CBI needs to file FIR on Rs 13,000 crore Adani coal scam first," the woman said in her writing. 2. The acquisition of Indian ports and airports by dubious FPI-owned (including Chinese and UAE) Adani companies with approval from the Home Minister's office poses a national security risk. Next, CBI, please come and count my shoes.
