Mamata Banerjee Announces Reshuffle to Accommodate New Guard, Appease Old Guard

Viewed as a desperate attempt to keep the flock together ahead of the impending Lok Sabha polls, Mamata Banerjee announced on Thursday that she would accommodate party leaders who might lose their posts in an upcoming reshuffle and try to keep a balance between the old guard and the new generation.

Numerous locations have had block presidents replaced (the list has not yet been made public). Before the list was formally released, Mamata attempted to allay fears by saying, "Those block presidents who have been replaced, I want to tell them that please do not think that your role is over."

In an attempt to allay worries at the grassroots level, the chief minister, who also advised party officials to seek out "good leaders" in other parties, attempted to clarify that the party was large enough to accept leaders in various organizational positions.

We have now developed a policy known as one-man, one-post. I'll do my best to make accommodations for any elderly people who believe they are being neglected.... In her unity sermon, Mamata declared, "I want us all to stay united."

According to a Trinamul source, the party is prepared to undergo an organizational overhaul throughout its roughly 343 blocks in the lead-up to the Lok Sabha elections, which are slated for next year. Following a poll by Abhishek Banerjee's office, the party has decided to appoint at least 65 new faces as block presidents. It's likely that the list of modifications will be revealed soon.

The ruling establishment is being careful because many fear that the reshuffle would spark new disputes inside the party, which is something the party cannot afford to happen before the Lok Sabha elections.

The insider stated, "That is why Didi's announcement was important," before going on to say that the party's leadership saw internal feuds as a greater obstacle than those posed by rival parties.

Mamata's remarks on Thursday, according to a Trinamul leader, are significant.

for the party because it had been seeing murders and violent episodes as a result of internal strife throughout the state, particularly in rural areas.

On November 13, in the town of Joynagar, South 24 Parganas, a 47-year-old Trinamul leader and the husband of gram panchayat official Saifuddin Sheikh was shot and killed. Rupchand Mondal, the head of the Amdanga gram panchayat in North 24 Parganas, was killed the day following the first murder when he was attacked with crude bombs by unidentified assailants.

Numerous rural body officials in Trinamul have already begun to approach the police, according to a police source, after security staff reported threats against their lives.
