Bengal chief secretary B.P. Gopalika and director general of police Rajeev Kumar have received letters from the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes requesting information about a sexual harassment allegation that a lady at Sandeshkhali in North 24-Parganas submitted.

Additionally, within three days of receiving the warning, the commission ordered Gopalika and Kumar to provide detailed information about the actions done in response to the woman's complaints. Should the notification be ignored, the two officials will have to personally appear before the commission or be represented by someone.

The commission has chosen to send a team for an on-site assessment to Sandeshkhali on February 22.

According to experts, in accordance with Article 338A of the Constitution, the commission is tasked with guaranteeing the safety and security of the Scheduled Tribes in addition to looking into complaints from them.

According to the expert, "the state government is required by the constitution to send the detailed investigation report."
