Netflix Unveils Trailer for Monochromatic Thriller Series 'Ripley' Starring Andrew Scott

In the trailer for Netflix's monochromatic limited thriller series Ripley, which was released by the streamer on Monday, Andrew Scott's character Tom Ripley is drawn into a world of deception and murder after learning his true identity.

The one-minute, two-second teaser, which is based on Patricia Highsmith's best-selling Tom Ripley books, transports us to Ripley's world as she negotiates a suspenseful voyage with police, criminals, and industrialists in the 1960s. After some monochromatic images of an Italian church, Ripley (Scott) is approached by a guy who informs him that he is a "hard man to find." An businessman hires renegade con artist Ripley, who has no phone, office, or address, and sends him to Italy to persuade his son Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn), to come back home.

Dakota Fanning, who plays Flynn's girlfriend in the series, believes Ripley is hiding something from her.

Steven Zaillian, whose credits include Schindler's List (1993), Gangs of New York (2002), The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (2009), and The Irishman (2019), is the writer and director of Ripley. Based on Highsmith's same named book from 1955, the narrative was previously made into a 1999 movie called The Talented Mr. Ripley, starring Matt Damon and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Scott is well-known for his roles as the antagonist Moriarty in the BBC series Sherlock (2010) and Hot Priest in the second season of Phoebe Waller-Bridge's comedy-drama series Fleabag on Prime Video (2016–19). Recently, the actor co-starred in All Of Us Strangers, which took home the British Independent Film Award for Best British Independent Film, with Paul Mescals.

On April 4, Ripley will be available on Netflix.
