PM Modi Inaugurates "Sudarshan Setu," India's Longest Cable-Stayed Bridge in Gujarat

In Gujarat's Devbhumi Dwarka district, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated "Sudarshan Setu," the nation's longest cable-stayed bridge, on Sunday. At 2.32 kilometers, it spans the Arabian Sea and connects the island of Beyt Dwarka with the mainland of Okha.

At the Beyt Dwarka temple dedicated to Lord Sri Krishna, Modi said prayers to start his day.

Subsequently, he dedicated the "Sudarshan Setu," a four-lane cable-stayed bridge with a distinctive design that includes pictures of Lord Krishna on both sides and a walkway embellished with passages from the Srimad Bhagavad Gita.

An official announcement states that the 2.32 km bridge, which includes a 900 m central double span cable-stayed segment and a 2.45 km approach road, was built at a cost of Rs 979 crore.

It said that there are 2.50 meter wide walkways on each sides of the four-lane, 27.20 meter wide bridge.

Formerly called "Signature Bridge," the bridge is now called "Sudarshan Setu," or Sudarshan Bridge.

Beyt Dwarka is an island next to Okha port, about 30 kilometers from Dwarka town, home of the well-known Dwarkadhish temple dedicated to Lord Krishna.

According to authorities, devotees visiting the Beyt Dwarka temple may now only go by boat during the day; however, after the bridge is built, they will be able to travel whenever they like.
