During his visit to Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will perform "Ashram Bhoomi Vandana" and present the Sabarmati Ashram Memorial Project's blueprint.

According to a government statement on Sunday, the project, which has a budget of Rs 1,200 crore, intends to revive Mahatma Gandhi's teachings and philosophy for the current and upcoming generations.

According to the statement, the project is an ambitious one that would upgrade the Sabarmati Ashram's surrounding infrastructure, offer tourists cutting-edge amenities, and create a world-class memorial honoring the Father of the Nation.

According to the announcement, the masterplan calls for the restoration of 36 existing buildings and the expansion of the ashram, which Mahatma Gandhi founded in 1917 on the banks of the Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad, from its current five acres to a 55-acre site.

The project entails the preservation of twenty historic structures, the meticulous restoration of thirteen, and the reconstruction of three, all with the sacred objective of maintaining the ashram's original architectural purity and simplicity. The intention is to furnish the ashram so that it emanates luscious tranquillity, serenity, and greenery to every guest," the statement read.

The master plan calls for the construction of additional structures to house public utilities, administration facilities, visitor amenities such as an orientation center, and interactive workshops on "charkha" spinning, handmade paper, cotton weaving, and leatherwork.

According to the statement, the structures will have interactive displays and activities that highlight many facets of Mahatma Gandhi's life and the ashram's legacy.

In order to preserve, defend, and promote Mahatma Gandhi's views, the masterplan calls for the construction of a library and archives building. Additionally, it calls for the installation of facilities that would allow visiting researchers to access the ashram's library and archives.

The project will also make it possible to establish an interpretation center that will be able to assist guests in a variety of languages and with varying expectations, enhancing and stimulating their experience on a cultural and intellectual level.

According to the statement, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel would attend the "Ashram Bhoomi Vandana" ceremony with Prime Minister Modi.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister will also open the renovated Kochrab Ashram, which was the first ashram that Mahatma Gandhi founded after arriving in India from South Africa in 1915. It is being maintained as a tourist destination and memorial, according to the statement.

"Modi has a great deal of respect and affection for Gandhiji's belief that peace and truth should be upheld even in turbulent times. The revitalization project will proceed with the utmost care and regard for the fact that the ashram is more than just a physical location, according to the press statement.

"The ashram is a refuge for reflection, a testing ground for moral principles, and a testament to the sacrifice and tenacity of liberation fighters. Every area of the revered ashram is imbued with the profound beliefs and simple lifestyle of Gandhiji," the statement read.
