Police arrest three people on charge of abetting 'suicides' of two Brahma Kumari sisters

Three persons have been taken into custody by the police on suspicion of helping the two Brahma Kumari sisters in Agra commit suicide. A squad has been assembled to apprehend the primary suspect.

On Friday night, Ekta Kumari, 37, and Shikha Kumari, 34, were discovered hanging from the ceiling of their chamber at the spiritual Brahma Kumaris ashram in the hamlet of Jagner, Agra. There were two alleged suicide notes discovered.

Mahesh Kumar, additional commissioner of police, said, "The police have arrested Tara Chand Singhal, Guddan Kumar, and Punam Kumari, three members of the ashram, from different places (in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh) and formed a team to arrest main accused Neeraj Singhal."

The sisters moved to Jagner near Agra four years ago after completing their training as Brahma Kumaris at the organization's Mount Abu ashram in Rajasthan eight years before, according to their brother.

Neeraj had told the two sisters in Mount Abu that he would move into the Jagner ashram with them once it was finished, but he subsequently declined to do so, according to the alleged suicide notes, which were written in Hindi. Neeraj is also accused of defrauding the sisters of Rs 25 lakh by making false promises.

The employment of Neeraj Singhal is at Mount Abu. He ceased communicating with us, despite his repeated assurances that he will remain with us after the center (in Jagner) is constructed. Ekta supposedly wrote, "We kept crying for a year but he didn't listen to us." in her three-page message.

According to the memo, the sisters handed Neeraj an additional Rs 18 lakh that they had raised from ashram benefactors in addition to the Rs 7 lakh that their father had given them.

The message asks other ashram members to avoid misinterpreting the sisters. It mentions a different ashram lady by name and claims that Neeraj is romantically involved with her.

Speaking to reporters in Agra on Sunday, the younger brother of the sisters backed up the women's accusations against Neeraj.
