Posters Criticizing BJP Emerge in Raiganj and Hills, Revealing Intra-Party Discord
A poster in Raiganj on Sunday put up in the name of BJP workers which says ‘we want the BJP, but not outsider Debasree Chaudhuri

On Sunday, posters criticizing the party and a BJP MP on several matters were up in Raiganj and the hills.

The posters in Raiganj had the names of "BJP workers." Ajoy Edwards's political organization, the Hamro Party, erected posters throughout the hills.

There were several banners in Raiganj that said, "BJP K Chai! We want BJP, but not outsider Debasree Chaudhuri, says Bohiragoto Debasree Chaudhuri K Noy.

In the recent past, posters stating that the people of the Raiganj Lok Sabha seat preferred native-born candidates over foreigners were displayed across the town. On the same demand, a number of BJP officials who were removed staged a protest and engaged in dandi, which is a kind of intermittent prostration across a distance.

The fact that Chaudhuri, the Raiganj MP, has been identified and called an outsider, along with the names of BJP employees, makes these posters much more obvious. A seasoned local politician said, "It appears that there are disagreements within the BJP regarding the candidate for the Lok Sabha elections."

Although Chaudhuri was born and raised in South Dinajpur, she has lived in Calcutta for many years.

Leaders of the district BJP called the posters a "conspiracy." "Our political rivals are well aware that we want to hold onto the Raiganj seat. For this reason, they have posted these kinds of posters to confuse people. According to Basudeb Sarkar, the head of the BJP in North Dinajpur, "we are attempting to identify the poster's creator and will pursue legal action against them."

On the other side, Trinamul leaders have mocked the BJP. The banners made clear the severe internal strife inside the BJP. The MP and party leaders have alienated the local workforce, which has resulted in the party losing its base of support. We have no affiliation with it, said Trinamul district vice-president Arindam Sarkar.

This publication called Chaudhuri but got no response.

In the hills, Hamro Party members defaced the BJP with posters on Sunday, claiming it had broken its pledges in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong, and Mirik.

"For the last 15 years, we have backed the BJP, but they have disregarded our goals. Prior to the last general elections, the leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party made important promises that were not fulfilled. These promises included a durable political settlement, giving 11 hill communities Scheduled Tribe status, and paying minimum salaries to tea workers. That is the reason we displayed the posters," said Dipu Thapa, the head of the Hamro Party's media cell and central committee.

According to a representative of the Hamro Party, the hills sent BJP Members of Parliament to the Lok Sabha to press for their demands, but the MPs were only able to draw attention to some development projects.
