Prashanth Neel Hopes "Salaar" Repeats "KGF" Magic, Rejects Pan-India Planning

Prashanth Neel, the director of the blockbuster "KGF" franchise, is back with his latest offering, "Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire." Starring Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, the film is set to hit the theaters on September 28, 2023.

Neel discussed his ambitions for "Salaar" and his filming process in a recent interview. He claimed that he never saw himself trying to include all Indians in his films.Rather, he concentrates on crafting a captivating narrative and amiable characters for the viewer.

"I've written a story and I've executed it. I don't know if it ('Salaar') is going to be a pan-India movie or not. But if it becomes a pan-India movie, then that's an absolute bonus for all of us. Like, 'KGF' happened very organically.

"Movies that happen organically always do well. You can't plan to make a pan-India movie, you can't plan and say that I'm going to bring these actors from this industry to make it a pan-India movie. It doesn't work like that," Neel told PTI in an interview.

Neel's remarks are consistent with the current pattern of Indian movies that fall short of the hype. The most disappointing films are "Jersey," "83," and "Radhe Shyam."

Although the goal of all these films was to appeal to a pan-Indian audience, they were unable to establish a connection with audiences from other parts of the country. This implies that there isn't a foolproof recipe for producing a popular pan-Indian movie.

Neel's approach of focusing on the story and characters is a more sustainable one. If he can deliver a good film with strong characters, "Salaar" will have a good chance of succeeding, regardless of whether it is marketed as a pan-India film or not.

The film also stars Shruti Haasan, Eshwari Rao, Jagapathi Babu, and Sriya Reddy. It is produced by Hombale Films, the same production house that backed the "KGF" franchise.
