Until late Saturday night, it was unclear whether Ravichandran Ashwin, who had departed the India team after the second day's play due to a family issue, would be returning for the third Test.

On the fourth day of the Test, Sunday morning, a statement from the BCCI verified that Ashwin will return to action.

The senior off-spinner was seen bowling at one of the Niranjan Shah Stadium's practice grounds on Sunday during the lunch break. Following that, he was given a mammoth 557-run victory goal when England was 18/2 in the last session of the day.

When needed, Ashwin was ready to bowl at any moment. In the 28th over of England's second innings, the off-spinner was reintroduced into the attack after the umpires waived his penalty time for being off the field.

To help the team win, he even managed to get Tom Hartley wicket.
