Rivalry Within Trinamul Congress Turns Violent as Shots Fired at Party Members

On Thursday in the North Dinajpur district, members of a rival group of the Trinamul Congress fired shots at two employees who were loyal to a party leader, injuring them.

The two wounded people are under intensive care at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital in Siliguri.

According to sources, there were around 80 Trinamul workers who were eager to run for election in various Gobindapur panchayat seats. These workers were either from the lobby of the party's district president Kanaialal Agarwala or were connected to Hamidul Rehman, the Trinamul MLA for Chopra.

Although it falls within Rehman's Assembly seat, the panchayat is situated in the district's Islampur block.

Given the circumstances, it was determined that the party would not provide any symbols to the willing employees and that they should run as Independents instead. The board will be made up of the winners.

As a result, nominations from both lobbies were submitted by as many as 64 Trinamul employees.

"The panchayat has 23 seats. When the results were revealed, it was discovered that 11 from Hamidul Rehman's lobby and 12 from Kanaialal Agarwala's lobby had won, according to a party insider.

After a few days, Zakir Hossain, the Trinamul president of the Islampur block and a friend of Agarwala, said that two of their elected representatives, Mohammad Zahid Alam and Mohammad Aslam, had been kidnapped from Suri of Birbhum by accused criminals hired by Rehman, the Chopra MLA.

Since then time, the pair was untraceable. They arrived at our location this morning after successfully breaking out from a Siliguri residence where they were being held captive, according to Hossain.

Hossain arrived to the Islampur police station on Thursday with the two members and a few sympathizers. There, the pair spoke with the police and filed a complaint against the MLA.

"We were kidnapped from Suri on July 8. We were first taken to Jharkhand, and from there, they moved us to other parts of Bihar. Those watching over us had made it obvious that if we attempted to flee, we would have to perish. We were brought to Siliguri a few days ago and lodged at a home there. We managed to escape from there this morning when the guy who was manning the area went to the restroom," said Alam.

Aslam, on the other hand, said that throughout their time in various locations, any talks they overheard implied that the MLA was responsible for the kidnapping.

He responded, "We've made sure the cops know about it.

The Trinamul supporters who belong to Agarwala's lobby and come from Gobindapur panchayat villages left Islampur and went back to their homes.

Some miscreants who are thought to be the MLA's cronies opened fire on them as they approached Kapranga, a hamlet under the control of the panchayat.

Bullets struck the group members Mujibal Haque and Bazrul Haque in the abdomen. They were transferred from the subdivisional hospital to NBMCH after being rushed there.

According to accounts, the police have come and are searching for the assailants.

The district president, Agarwala, said that they had forwarded a report on the MLA to the state authorities. We have made it quite apparent that the MLA was responsible for kidnapping these two panchayat members, and we believe he also planned today's assault. He urged the authorities to look into the incident and detain the offenders.

Chopra's Trinamul MLA Rehman, however, refuted the accusation. "Some individuals are making unfounded accusations against me and attempting to tie me into fabricated cases. We don't need to engage in such immoral practices since we already control the majority in the Gobindapur Panchayat, he remarked.
