Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor claims that whereas performers portraying violent characters used to be praised for such parts, these days they are criticized.

The romantic comedy "Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya" featured Shahid most recently. According to Shahid, there's a difference between an actor's portrayal and the character's deeds.

"I find the whole 'yeh aisa, woh waisa hai' approach to be rather exaggerated. Actors who have played roles that could be construed as violent over several generations are referred to as superstars or legendary. It's really important now, all of a sudden," Kapoor said in an interview with PTI.

"In my opinion, we should show respect for something that is done properly and conveys emotion to the audience. You may like it or not, but there's no mistaking the caliber of the performance or the character's attributes," he continued.

Characters in Hindi film have been the subject of intense discussion recently due to accusations that they promote toxic masculinity.

By the way, Sandeep Reddy Vanga helmed the films at the center of the controversy: "Animal," starring Ranbir Kapoor, and "Kabir Singh," starring Shahid and reimagining the Telugu smash "Arjun Reddy."

Shahid asserts that the "script and the filmmaker and quality of a performance is defined by what the filmmaker has brought out from the actor" determine a character's characteristics.

"The audience can relate to that. At an event here, he stated, "That's how I see things, but everyone has their point of view."

Action movies "Deva" and "Ashwatthama," two of his next projects, are distinct from one another, according to Shahid.

Since I like diversity and change, I've been making an effort to achieve that. As you can see from my body of work over the past ten years, I've always chosen a new character or changed my appearance for each movie. You have to make your choice from what's available to you and what's in front of you because there are only so many genres in the world of film, he explained.

Rosshan Andrews, who directed Malayalam hits like "Salute" and "Kayamkulam Kochunni," is the director of "Deva." The movie, which also stars Pooja Hegde, is scheduled for release on October 11.

Shahid described his role in "Deva" as extremely "challenging."

"We are halfway through 'Deva'. I find this persona to be really exciting and hard. There's a lot of action, but there's also a lot of story, excitement, and suspense about what will happen next. The character surprises me greatly. On the sets, I'm having fun and I'm excited," he remarked.

Except for the headline, this story has not been edited by Press Time staff and has been published from a syndicated feed.

Shahid will begin work on "Ashwatthama: The Saga Continues" after "Deva," under the direction of Kannada director Sachin B Ravi.
