The fusion group Shakti, which includes guitarist John McLaughlin, violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan, percussionist V Selvaganesh, vocalist Shankar Mahadevan, Ustad Zakir Hussain, and guitarist John McLaughlin, won the Grammy for "This Moment" in the Best Global Music Album category on Sunday at the 66th Grammy Awards 2024 in Los Angeles, California.

The band beat over competitors like Bokante, Susana Baca, Davido, and Burna Bay with their distinctive fusion of jazz improvisation, Indian classical music, and vocal embellishments. There are eight tracks on the album This Moment.

The brand-new "studio" album, This Moment, is an authentic work of love. This album marks a significant turning point in Shakti's musical development. It symbolizes fifty years of collaboration and performance, starting in 1973.

"The numerous concerts we have played, the number of times we have been together working on our musical development, have brought us to the point where it has all been brought together here and now in the 21st Century," McLaughlin said in a statement.
