Bengal finished with three points in their Ranji Trophy battle against Uttar Pradesh at the Green Park in Kanpur.

Due to poor light, not a ball could be bowled on the final day of play after UP had concluded the penultimate day with a 50-run advantage in their second innings at 178/4.

Batting on 47 and 11, respectively, were captain Nitish Rana and Akshdeep Nath at the crease. Mohammed Kaif, a bowler for Bengal, had been excellent, taking three wickets.

Bengal were the favorites to win this match, considering the circumstances following the first three days. However, the light simply wasn't getting any better on Monday for the start of play before both teams agreed to shake hands.

Before the Bengal team packed to leave Kanpur, head coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla remarked, "It was a game from which we could have bagged six or even seven points."

Shukla remarked, "But you can't control the weather, so we have to settle for three points."

Bengal will make their first home appearance of the season on Friday when they take on Chhattisgarh at Eden Gardens. Bengal's top-order batsman Abhimanyu Easwaran and front-line quick Akash Deep will be absent from the upcoming match as well because they are both occupied with their India 'A' commitments ahead of the multi-day match against the England Lions in Ahmedabad starting on Wednesday.

Shahbaz Ahmed, an all-round spinner, is still recovering from his injury, though.

Brief scores: Bengal 188, UP 60 & 178/4, match drew.

Three-day outcome on Iyer's thoughts

Calcutta: Shreyas Iyer is happy with his preparations for the forthcoming series against England and hopes to play on turning tracks.

In Mumbai's Ranji Trophy encounter against Andhra at home, which they won by ten wickets on Monday, Iyer scored 48 runs.

Honestly, that wasn't a turning point in the song. Against England, I assume we would be receiving turning wickets. Apart than that, though, it was only for my match fitness. I thought this was excellent practice, he said.

He is presuming that the Tests will conclude early.

To be really honest, all I can do is reflect on the past three days. As you can see, the last two Test matches we had in South Africa lasted just three days. I just need to concentrate on the first three days because they are always the most crucial; the fourth and fifth will come if necessary.
