Siliguri Parents Urged to Ensure Children's Safety in School Pool Cars

Siliguri residents in and around the city have been warned by state transport department officials to make sure their children who use the shoddy car services to get to school are safe.

According to department insiders, they have been conducting citywide raids over the past month to make sure that the pool cars that transport kids from their homes to schools and back are following the law.

We carried out 30 of these raids last month to make sure the pool cars were abiding by the regulations. In the Siliguri subdivision, there are approximately 300 pool cars in use overall. Many people are running in an unauthorized manner and breaking the law, as we have discovered," stated Siliguri's assistant regional transport officer, Suparno Dey.

He states that in order to operate a school pool car service, it is necessary to adhere to a number of safety regulations, including having enough seats for all students, a door-locking system that works with an emergency exit, a fire extinguisher, and an up-to-date fitness certificate for each car.

"We are carrying out our share. Parents should simultaneously make sure that the pool car belonging to their child is adhering to these rules. For their child's safety, it is essential," Dey continued.

According to sources close to the Greater Siliguri Publishers & Book Sellers Welfare Association on Tuesday, the 41st edition of the North Bengal Book Fair will begin at Siliguri's Kanchenjunga Stadium Mela Ground on December 8 and be formally inaugurated on December 10.
