Tata Steel Adventure Foundation Supports 16-Year-Old Kaamya Karthikeyan's Everest Ascent

One of the nation's first organizations to encourage adventure sports, the Jharkhand-based Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) has chosen to back 16-year-old climbing sensation Kaamya Karthikeyan's first ascent of Mount Everest.

Chanakya Chaudhary, vice-president of corporate services at Tata Steel, gave the go-ahead on Friday for the youngest climber in India to go on an expedition to summit the world's highest peak, which is 29,031.7 feet. Kaamya's father, S. Karthikeyan, an Indian Navy captain, is also on the squad.

It is anticipated that the seven-week trip, which leaves from Kathmandu on April 6, would be finished by the last week of May.

"A lengthy acclimatization phase at Everest Base Camp, lasting around 40–45 days and including many rotations to higher camps, is necessary for the expedition to climb Mount Everest. On the way to the summit, there are four campgrounds following base camp. Climbers must wait until favorable weather conditions provide a window for the last push to the summit at camp four, which is situated at an elevation of 7,950 feet, according to TSAF senior officer and Everest summit climber Hemant Gupta.

He said that on April 3, Kaamya would arrive in Kathmandu.

"Apart from her efforts, she will trek back to Lukla and fly back to Kathmandu by May 29 with everyone's blessings, wishes, and favorable conditions," a TSAF spokesman said.

Although this is Kaamya's first attempt to climb Everest at this early age, this is not her first significant climbing endeavor. Kaamya has already climbed the tallest mountains on five continents, many of which are thought to be difficult for even physically strong and robust individuals.

In addition, she has scaled several Himalayan peaks, including Everest Base Camp when she was only nine years old.

Kaamya, a resident of Mumbai, was awarded the prestigious Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Shakti Puraskar, the highest national award for citizens under the age of eighteen, for achieving numerous world records for extraordinary mountaineering feats at a very young age, including being the youngest girl to summit a peak above 20,000 feet, the youngest girl to summit Mt. Aconcagua, and the youngest girl to ski down from the summit of Mt. Elbrus.

Her father, a skilled climber, will assist Kaamya in her endeavor to climb Mount Everest. He'll go with her on this amazing journey.
