TMC Calls for Supreme Court-Monitored Polls, Accuses BJP of Manipulating Election Commission

Senior TMC politician Derek O'Brien declared on Tuesday that the BJP's ploys are "destroying" institutions like the Election Commission, which is why the party wants the Lok Sabha elections to be overseen by the Supreme Court.

The leader of the TMC party in the Rajya Sabha questioned whether the BJP is using the EC as "its party office" because it is so afraid of the public.

"BJP's dirty practices are harming India's Election Commission and other institutions. Is the BJP so fearful of public opinion that they are using ECI as a party office to attack the opposition? The Voice of His Master, or ECI?" He made a post on X.

"Transferring officials from state administrations that are elected! for impartial and free elections. We want the 2024 election to be overseen by the Supreme Court," he continued.

The TMC accused the BJP of manipulating the constitutional body after the Election Commission of India (ECI) ordered the dismissal of West Bengal DGP Rajeev Kumar and the appointment of Vivek Sahay, who had previously been suspended by the poll panel, as the new state police chief.

The ruling TMC and the opposition BJP engaged in a political showdown as a result of the EC's decision, which the saffron camp applauded.
