TMC Dismisses BJP Claims of Potential Defections: Political Dynamics in West Bengal

The saffron party called senior TMC lawmaker Abhishek Banerjee's assertion on Wednesday that ten prominent BJP leaders are eager to join the TMC "baseless."

Banerjee said that the "BJP will be wiped out of the state" and that the party will launch its doors at the appropriate time while doing a road show in the Murshidabad Lok Sabha seat.

"The BJP is attempting to enter the game of party disruption, but they are not successful at it. We retaliated against them by stealing two of their MPs, Arjun Singh and Babul Supriyo. They just inducted Tapas Ray through ED raids. There are presently ten or more BJP leaders waiting to join the TMC, he claimed.

In response to Banerjee's assertion, BJP spokesman Samik Bhattacharya predicted that the "TMC will disintegrate like a pack of cards" following the elections. "These are little more than political platitudes made in response to West Bengal's defeat. The TMC would fall apart like a pack of cards after the Lok Sabha elections, he said.

Following the 2021 assembly elections, eight lawmakers, including national vice-president Mukul Roy, former Union minister Babul Supriyo, and party MP Arjun Singh have joined the TMC.

In 2021, the Trinamul Congress secured 213 out of 292 assembly seats, while the BJP secured 77, bringing them to power in the state for a third consecutive term.
