Train derailment in Bihar kills 4, injures 100

The North East Express from Delhi, which was headed for Assam, jumped tracks on Wednesday night close to the Raghunathpur railway station in the Buxar district of Bihar, injuring about 100 passengers and killing at least four, according to officials in the state.

"The train has derailed completely. Three of the coaches have suffered significant damage, while four to five have fully flipped, according to Buxar district magistrate Anshul Agarwal.

It is possible to retrieve four bodies. There are between 80 and 100 injuries. There have been about 15 to 20 badly injured individuals transported to AIIMS Patna in ambulances.

Abu Zayed, a young man from the Bihar town of Saptia Bhandarpur, as well as Usha Bhandari and her daughter Akriti, age eight, from Mehrauli in Delhi, are among the deceased. Narendra has been named as the fourth deceased; according to news agency PTI, he was a resident of Rajasthan. Coach B7 held all of the deceased.

Muhammad Nasir, Zayed's cousin who was also on the train, stated: "We were shoved off our berths when we were trying to sleep after dinner. The carriage had rolled over. When I went in search of my cousin, I discovered he was dead.

At 9:35 p.m., according to East Central Railway (ECR) officials, the train went off the rails. Virendra Kumar, the chief public relations officer for ECR, stated that five passengers had serious injuries and twenty-five others had minor ones; these numbers are far less than those reported by the state government.

Rescue operations

Locals claimed that they heard a tremendous noise and raced to the scene. The district magistrate commended them for beginning to pull out the injured and assist some of them to the primary health center (PHC) at Raghunathpur.

Involved in the rescue and relief efforts were the district administration, police, National Disaster Response Force, and State Disaster Response Force.

There were interruptions to train services on the heavily used Patna-Delhi route. Heavy machinery, including cranes, was brought in to clean the tracks.

The goal of the investigation, according to railway minister Ashwini Vaishnav, is to "find the root cause of the derailment." The accident will be looked into by the railway safety commissioner (eastern circle) in Calcutta.

Error in the tracks

According to railway sources cited by PTI, a preliminary inquiry report suggests that a track defect could have been the reason of the incident. "It appears that a track fault caused the derailment," the report, which was signed by six railway officials, stated.

The loco pilot, Vipin Kumar Sinha, reportedly made a statement in the report stating that the train passed Raghunathpur station at 128 kmph and then had a violent shock at the rear end with extreme vibration. Sinha reportedly only sustained minor injuries.

According to Sinha, this caused the brake pipe pressure to abruptly drop, which caused the train to derrail, PTI said, quoting the investigation.
