Trinamul Files Complaint Against BJP MP Nisith Pramanik Over Dinhata Clash; Governor Visits Amidst Tensions

On Wednesday, Trinamul lodged a police complaint against Nisith Pramanik, the BJP MP for Cooch Behar and Union minister of state, along with 44 other individuals, including several BJP leaders. The complaint claimed that Pramanik was responsible for the incident that occurred in Dinhata on Tuesday night.

In response to a complaint made at the Dinhata police station, investigators have opened a case and begun their investigation.

A former Pramanik associate who recently defected to Trinamul, Prititosh Mondal, stated in the lawsuit that multiple party workers were injured in the incident, with one of them reportedly being seriously hurt.

"Nisith Pramanik got out of the car and gave his cronies the order to attack us." Sharp weapons and arrows were used against us, according to Mondal's allegation.

At approximately 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Pramanik's convoy was passing through the region on its way back from an election campaign, while a group of Trinamul members were celebrating the 71st birthday of Udayan Guha, the Dinhata MLA and north Bengal development minister.

Abruptly, there was a fight, with Pramanik and Guha supposedly engaging in a face-off. There was conflict among their supporters. Once central forces and police arrived, the situation was under control. A brick struck Dinhata SDPO Dhiman Mitra in the head amid the mayhem.

On Wednesday, starting at 6 a.m., Trinamul saw a strike that lasted for ten hours in Dinhata subdivision. Due to the rain, Dinhata town and the majority of the subdivision appeared desolate.

The area was patrolled by central military and police officers. The majority of people stayed inside during the day as Trinamul workers gathered and held demonstrations in specific locations.

Trinamul had demanded a 24-hour bandh on Tuesday night, but Guha declared today afternoon that they would be lifting it at 4 p.m.

Ramzan is on, which is why. Since the morning, the reaction has been impromptu, and we were able to effectively convey to the BJP that the people in this area detest political violence," he stated.

The BJP claimed that members of the Trinamul party threw stones at one of Pramanik's convoy's cars.

"Some Trinamul laborers commanded by Udayan Guha attacked us with bricks, sticks, and stones as soon as we halted and emerged. They have planned similar operations against my convoy in the past. They repeated the action on Tuesday. They cannot stop us from gaining the seat again by violence, the MP declared.

The district BJP president, Sukumar Roy, charged that Trinamul was behind the police's actions.

The attack was prearranged. Police filed a case against our men rather than taking action against Trinamul. It is a common practice in Bengal for BJP employees to be linked to fabricated cases. We will take legal action if necessary," Roy declared.

A group of BJP supporters demonstrated outside the Cooch Behar SP office during the Trinamul strike. The police stopped them when they attempted to scale the barricades in front of the office. After a while, the throng dispersed.

On April 16, there will be voting in Cooch Behar.

A BJP official stated, "We want the central security forces to be more active to prevent such Trinamul attacks. We have shared details of the (Tuesday night) incident with our state and central leaders."

In contrast, Trinamul is attempting to demonstrate that the BJP is using violence as a fear tactic in a constituency where its MP is located.

Guha wrote on social media on Wednesday, stating that he was asked if he appreciated his birthday "gift" by a BJP fan.

I was asked in the post if I approved of the planned attack on us, which was labeled the "gift." This confirms that the MP and his allies targeted us on Tuesday night in a premeditated manner," Guha stated.

Governor's visit

On Wednesday, Dinhata was visited by Governor C.V. Ananda Bose, who had expressed concern about the political violence in Cooch Behar on Tuesday night and asked for a report from the state police.

After landing at Bagdogra, Bose proceeded towards Dinhata. He chatted with locals there, including the civic chairman of the Dinhata municipality, which is administered by Trinamul, and a BJP MLA. He arrived at a busy crossing.

Subsequently, the governor stated to reporters that Dinhata will receive the peace it desired.

Elections in Bengal, at least in certain areas, have long since been reduced to a contest between the powerful and the conservative. Election outcomes cannot be determined by violence. The governor declared, "We are resolved to put an end to violence with an iron hand and things cannot be the same as (they were during) the panchayat elections."

Bose expressed his appreciation for the people of Dinhata as well, saying that they wished to avoid violence and unite.

"We want to stop the rot here in Dinhata this time. Here, elections will be held in a calm manner. Additionally, if locals here need assistance, they are welcome to contact the governor via the Log Sabha portal, and he will support them, he continued.

In order to communicate with the people of Bengal directly during the Lok Sabha elections, Bose launched the Log Sabha portal on Sunday. People can contact the governor via the new initiative's email address, logsabha.rajbhavankolkata@gmail.com, by sending an email.

The governor met some other persons in Burirhat, a subsidiary community, after leaving Dinhata. After that, he at last arrived in Cooch Behar's Circuit House.
