The West Indies have a fantastic opportunity to prove themselves on the global front during this T20 World Cup. Caribbean cricket has a great history, but it has been declining for a while now. Their most recent disappointment—not qualifying for the ODI World Cup—has made the decline worse.

However, they are able to recover in this T20 match. The West Indies will have a clear edge because they are accustomed to the conditions as co-hosts with the United States. To what extent are they ready? Their performance on Sunday in Georgetown, Guyana, versus Papua New Guinea, may serve as a sign.

In addition to being two-time T20 champions, the Windies boast a talented team that features star T20 players Andre Russell and Shimron Hetmyer. Will they, however, play cohesively to resurrect the great days?

They have someone who knows how to finish the job in Darren Sammy, the coach. Sammy led the West Indies to victory in the T20 World Cup in both 2012 and 2016. Sammy will therefore be responsible for maintaining the team's concentration.

Canada, the USA's neighbors, will play the other match of the day in Dallas. In the lead-up to the Cup, the US squad, led by player of Indian descent Monank Patel, caused quite a stir when they defeated Bangladesh 2-1 in a Twenty20 international series.

The USA, led by Australian Stuart Law, will be the favorites against Canada with a roster loaded with foreign players. Corey Anderson, a former all-rounder for New Zealand, is a US player.
