Beginning in 2019, South Dinajpur, a district located on the border between Bangladesh and India, will have a direct rail service to Calcutta.
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) claimed that the Railway Board has authorized a proposal to operate a train between Balurghat and Sealdah.
In 2004, train services began operating in Balurghat. But as of right now, there isn't a train that goes straight to Calcutta. Balurghat and South Dinajpur residents go to Malda via a connection train, where the coaches are connected to the Gour Express.
The train would operate every day of the week, according to sources. The train leaves Balurghat every day at 7 p.m. and arrives in Sealdah at 4:20 a.m. It departs Sealdah around 10:30 p.m. and arrives in Balurghat at 8:30 a.m.
"It is anticipated that the service will start in mid-January," said Balurghat MP and BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar.
