Bengal cabinet approves Mamata Banerjee’s plan to provide employment to relatives of panchayat poll violence victims

The chief minister's plan to provide employment to the relatives of every person murdered in violence during the July panchayat elections was approved by the Bengal cabinet on Friday.

According to sources, the process of placing the victims' next of kin in employment has already begun.

"It was a mention case," the source said, indicating that the chief minister's plan was brought to the cabinet's attention shortly after the panchayat elections.

Although opposition parties claimed the death toll had topped 40, Mamata Banerjee had previously said that 19 persons had perished in violence during the panchayat elections.

Nineteen individuals have passed away since the nomination period. They are the victims of events. Each will get Rs 2 lakh in addition to a position as a special house guard. The chief minister had said on July 12 that "we will not discriminate against the victims on the basis of political affiliations."

Out of the 19 victims of violence, Mamata had also claimed that 10–12 belonged to the Trinamul Congress.
