Bengal Himalayan Carnival to Boost Tourism in North Bengal

To encourage travel, a three-day celebration will be held starting on Friday across north Bengal's plains and hills.

The Bengal Himalayan Carnival will be held in three places from March 1 to 3 under the auspices of the Himalayan Hospitality & Tourism Development Network (HHTDN), the leading organization of tourism stakeholders in north Bengal.

The Covid-19 epidemic, according to industry veteran and HHTDN adviser Raj Basu, caused a setback for the tourist business.

It has been revitalized in the last several years, but there are still ways to increase the number of people visiting this area. For this reason, in collaboration with the state tourist agency, our organization is hosting the festival," said Basu.

He claims that the carnival will take place in the Dooars, Kalimpong, and Darjeeling.

According to HHTDN officials, the event will start on Friday in the Jalpaiguri district's Lataguri. The Lataguri Resort Owners' Welfare Association will organize it together.

The festival is organized by the Jaldhaka Offbeat Tourism Welfare Association (JOTWA) and will take place in the Kalimpong district's Jaldhaka and Jhalong on the second day.

Due to its closeness to reserve woods, Lataguri has been a popular destination for ecotourism throughout time. The event will start with a parade on the first day. Cultural activities and meetings akin to conversations with visitors would take place after it, according to Soumyajit Sarkar, assistant secretary of the Lataguri resort owners' organization.

Currently, Lataguri, which lies on the edge of Gorumara National Park, is home to over 150 resorts.

Joint secretary of JOTWA Vijay Thapa said that Jhalong and Jaldhaka should be promoted.

In collaboration with the sub-divisional administration and the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration, the carnival is scheduled to take place in the hill town of Mirik on March 3.
