BJP Defector Ganga Prasad Sharma Takes Over as Alipurduar Trinamul District Committee Head

As the new head of the Alipurduar Trinamul district committee, BJP defector Ganga Prasad Sharma has taken the post of veteran Trinamul Congressman Mridul Goswami.

Nonetheless, the party's member of the Rajya Sabha, Prakash Chik Baraik, has continued to hold the position of district president.

According to party sources, things were not going well between Goswami and Baraik. Goswami reportedly voiced his displeasure with Baraik's handling of some party forums, according to sources.

This shift surprised a lot of people.

A party leader said, "Mridul Goswami has been in Trinamul since 1996 and has had a cordial relationship with Mamata Banerjee since the day the party was formed."

Sharma, the BJP's district head, joined Trinamul subsequent to the 2021 Assembly elections.

According to a source, "the BJP had won all five Assembly seats from the district during the 2021 election, and Trinamul believed Sharma was instrumental in the BJP's win in Alipurduar district."

Since then, a party source said that Sharma was appointed chairman of the Jaigaon Development Authority (JAD) right away and has been granted almost unrestricted authority to bolster Trinamul's position in the tea-growing area of Alipurduar.

Sharma said, "I am ready to discharge any responsibility given by the party leadership," on Monday in response to a question about his new position.

When contacted, Goswami said that he had no objections about the party's choice to install Sharma in his stead.

"All I can say is that I have tried to improve the party ever since the first day, and I plan to keep doing so in the days ahead. Goswami said, "I have never opposed a party decision, and this time is no exception.
