Border trade window between Bangladesh and India via Changrabandha extended by two hours

Two hours have been added to the border commerce window between Bangladesh and India via Changrabandha in the Cooch Behar area.

Exporters and importers of both nations now have a 12-hour window, starting at 6 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m.

Senior representatives of Bangladeshi and Indian customs authorities, as well as the Border Security Force and Border Guard Bangladesh, met in Changrabandha on Monday to make the decision.

The meeting was attended by a number of Bangladeshi authorities, including Abdul Alim, a deputy commissioner of Bangladesh Customs, Abdul Latif, the superintendent of Customs stationed in Burumari, and representatives from the BSF and BGB.

The transit route links Burimari in Bangladesh on the opposite side of the border and is used to transport commodities by road from India and Bhutan to Bangladesh and vice versa.

Up until now, trucks have been able to cross the border between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. It was resolved during the meeting today, Monday, that trucks are permitted to cross the border between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on both sides. The choice, in our opinion, will increase bilateral trade between the nations via this border, according to Nima Lhamu Sherpa, the Changrabandha-based assistant commissioner of customs.

This route is used daily by over 300 trucks from India that deliver a variety of items to Bangladesh.

Additionally, 100 more trucks from Bangladesh transport commodities to India along the same route.

The decision to extend the time window by two hours will undoubtedly be beneficial to us. With an extra two hours, we can send more trucks to Bangladesh each day. Additionally, this expansion of time for vehicular travel allows the empty trucks to return earlier, according to a Changrabandha-based exporter.
