Centre Summons Bengal for Talks on Pending Development Funds After Mamata-PM Meet

In order to convene a conference on Tuesday over payments outstanding under different development programs, including the 100-day work plan, the Center has requested that the Bengal government send representatives to Delhi.

"After chief minister Mamata Banerjee met with the Prime Minister in Delhi on December 19, it was decided that both the Union government and the Bengal administration would set up teams to hold discussions on the dues under several central schemes." There is going to be a meeting on Tuesday. According to a senior state government source, the Center has requested that the state send representatives to the conference.

The meeting between state government representatives and representatives from the Union Ministry of Rural Development and the Prime Minister's Office is expected to take place, according to reports.

"A task team has already been established by the Bengali administration to represent the state at the conference. Members of the panchayat, finance, health, and education departments make up the task team. The remaining task force members are expected to be in Delhi by Tuesday morning, according to a source. The panchayat department officials arrived on Monday.

According to sources, the state administration has placed emphasis on promptly disbursing cash under rural initiatives for 100 days of houses, employment, and roads.

"The Center halted the disbursement of funds under the schemes on the grounds of irregularities." However, we have previously given reports on the steps we took to address the problems identified by the central teams who visited the state. According to an official, "We hope the Center will recognize that the state has taken sufficient measures to prevent irregularities in the future and also anticipate that funds would be released soon."

If the meeting is successful, the state anticipates receiving around Rs 18,000 crore under different initiatives in the near future.

To express disapproval of the stop in the money's disbursement, Trinamul had staged a number of protests.
