The producers of actor Kangana Ranaut's most recent film, "Emergency," said on Tuesday that it will open in theaters on June 14.

The actress plays former prime minister Indira Gandhi in the film, which Ranaut also wrote and directed.


"'Emergency' is my most ambitious project and second directorial post-'Manikarnika', we have the best of Indian and international talent come together for this big budget, grand period drama," the actor said in a statement.

Due to changes in Ranaut's schedule, the film's original release date of November 24, 2023 was postponed.

Produced by Manikarnika Films and Zee Studios, "Emergency" is billed as a high-end portrayal of the most contentious event in Indian democracy history.

"Standing at the core of this is one of the most sensational leaders of all time the first woman prime minister of India, Mrs Indira Gandhi," according to the official logline.

Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Vishak Nair, Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, and the late Satish Kaushik are also featured in the movie. Writer of "Pink," Ritesh Shah, wrote the movie's language and script.
