At the highly anticipated categories, Christopher Nolan, Emma Stone, and Cillian Murphy took home the gold at the 96th Academy Awards, which took place on March 10 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

For his biographical thriller Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan won Best Director, his first Oscar, and Cillian Murphy won Best Actor in a Leading Role for his portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the American theoretical physicist.


At the ceremony, Emma Stone won her second Oscar for her performance as Bella Baxter in Yorgos Lanthimos's Poor Things.

Da'Vine For Alexander Payne's The Holdovers, Joy Randolph took home the Best Supporting Actress prize, and Robert Downey Jr. won for Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer.

Other touching winners included Wes Anderson's The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, which won Best Live Action Short Film and became the 54-year-old director's first Oscar, and Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki, who won Best Animated Feature for The Boy and the Heron, reportedly his last Studio Ghibli picture.

And Anderson's movie has a link to Kolkata! A British-Indian actor, Dev Patel plays Dr Chatterjee, a doctor in Kolkata in the Netflix original film The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.
