FAA Audit Reveals Concerning Failures in Boeing's 737 MAX Production Process
Chungreng Koren

A video footage of a prominent Manipur mixed martial arts player asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi to "please" visit the state in a "humble request" has once again drawn attention to Modi's refusal to visit the northeastern state since the crisis started in May.

A relative of the Imphal-based MMA fighter told The presstime that Chungreng Koren, who won the Interim MFN Bantamweight Championship at an MMA facility in Noida on March 9, is seen emotional in the 0.43-second video that went viral on Monday.

Since the ethnic unrest began on May 3, 2023, which resulted in at least 221 deaths and nearly 67,000 displaced people, Modi has not traveled to Manipur.

In the video, Koren can be heard saying, "I want to tell one thing." This is a message from me to you, Modiji, a modest plea. Manipur has seen violence for almost a year. People are losing their lives on a daily basis. Children in relief camps are not receiving enough food and water, or khana-pina, and they are unable to learn as they should.

"We are concerned about Manipur's future," he continues. Modiji, please come to Manipur once right now. Manipur want instant peace, or jald se jald. Please.

Despite being unresponsive, Koren's relative revealed that the 26-year-old is from Kamu Koireng village in Kangpokpi district, which is near the boundary with Imphal East district. The community is home to his widowed mother, wife, two sons, and one daughter. Koren visits them often from his Gurgaon training base.

The violence has had the greatest impact on both districts. Koren is a member of the tribe Koireng. According to his relative, it is one of the 33 "officially recognised indigenous communities" in the state and has not taken sides in the dispute.

However, regardless of communities, everyone is anxious and concerned. We are all impacted by the fighting, which ought to stop soon. This may have been the rationale behind Koren's impassioned plea, which most people have found endearing. I did not know about the video either, even though I chatted with him on Saturday and Sunday following his victory. The relative remarked, "I saw it today."

Taking advantage of the video, the Opposition Congress attacked Modi for not going to Manipur. In Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, Modi had committed projects valued at Rs 3,500 crore for Manipur during his most recent visit to the Northeast on Saturday.

Gaurav Gogoi, a Congress MP from Assam, shared Koren's video on X with the caption, "This is the voice of the entire Northeast, not just one man." The BJP has become blind to the suffering of the people of Manipur because to power, money, and drugs.
