Former Chief Minister Hemant Soren Appeals to Supreme Court Over Bail Rejection

New Delhi - Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren, moved the Supreme Court on Monday, challenging the rejection of his bail plea by the Jharkhand High Court. The case in question is a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Soren, urgently mentioned the matter before a bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud. The bench, also comprising Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, stated that it would consider the request.

The appeal comes after the Jharkhand High Court dismissed Soren’s writ petition on Friday. The petition challenged his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and sought bail, which was denied.

Soren was arrested by the ED on January 31 and is currently in judicial custody at the Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi. He was sent to jail on February 15, following a 13-day custody period with the ED.

The Supreme Court’s decision on this matter is eagerly awaited, as it will have significant implications for Soren and the ongoing investigation into the alleged land scam.
