DC Studios head James Gunn revealed on social media that Milly Alcock, star of House of Dragon, would portray Superman's cousin Supergirl, also known as Kara Zor-El, in DC Universe's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Screen-tested performers included Meg Donnelly, who voiced Supergirl in the DC animated films Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part One (2024) and Legion of Superheroes (2023). Gunn and Peter Safran are also the co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios.
Speaking about his choice to cast Alcock in the part, Gunn said, "I was blown away by her varied auditions and screen tests for #Supergirl but I first became aware of her (Alcock) in House of the Dragon."
Gunn claims that the 23-year-old Australian actress "embodies Kara," as envisioned by screenwriter Ana Nogueira, artist Bilquis Evely, and comic book writer Tom King.

On Instagram, Alcock thanked James Gunn for giving her the role of Kara/Supergirl, writing, "So excited to be a part of the DC fam - thank you so much for trusting me with Kara / Supergirl."
The eight-issue miniseries of the same name by King and Evely served as the inspiration for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. It chronicles Kara's intergalactic travels with her heroic dog Krypto and her goal to aid Ruthye, an extraterrestrial girl, in getting revenge for her father's murder.

Additionally, King announced the news on Instagram, praising Gunn's selection for Supergirl as "perfect casting." "Excited to witness Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow, the universe that @bilquis created, brought to life by this amazing actor," the 45-year-old comic book writer tweeted in anticipation of the upcoming movie.
Before appearing in her own film, Alcock is apparently set to make an appearance in another DC Studios production.
