The QS World University Ranking, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Friday, shows the qualitative shifts in India's education system, and his government will seek to further increase research and innovation in the upcoming third term.

"We have concentrated on qualitative reforms in the education system over the past ten years. The QS World University Rankings represent this. Praise be to the academic staff, students, and organizations for their diligence and commitment. We intend to increase our efforts to support research and innovation even more in this term," the PM wrote on X.

According to the QS World University Ranking-2025, which was released on Wednesday, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) maintained its top spot globally for the 13th consecutive year, while the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in Bombay and Delhi are ranked among the top 150 universities in the world.

IIT Delhi gained 47 points to secure the 150th spot worldwide, while IIT Bombay increased its rank by 31 spots, from 149 to 118 last year.

The University of Delhi has been placed 44th internationally in the field of "employment outcomes" by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a prestigious higher education analyst based in London. This position is a result of the university's graduates' strong employability.

With 46 universities according to this edition of the rankings, the Indian system of higher education is the third most represented in Asia and the seventh most globally, behind only the Japanese system (49 universities) and the Chinese mainland system (71 universities).

India's representation has grown by 318 percent in the last ten years, from 46 institutions to 11 in 2015, making it the G20 country with the largest growth, according to QS officials.
