Mamata Banerjee Vows to Construct Rural Housing Units if Centre Fails to Release Funds
Mamata Banerjee addresses a government programme in Purulia on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Mamata Banerjee said that in the event that the Center would not deliver the necessary sums by April 1, her administration will release funding to build homes for the 11.38 lakh recipients of the rural housing plan.

"We (the Bengal administration) will build 11 lakh dwellings for the people identified under the rural housing project if the Union government does not give funding by April 1. The chief minister said, "We have already set up 47 lakh such homes earlier," on Tuesday at an event to distribute benefits of several programs in Purulia.

In addition, she said that the state government will provide additional housing for members of minority groups and the economically disadvantaged in addition to the 11 lakh dwellings that are planned to be constructed under the rural housing initiative.

"In addition to the 11 lakh residential units, an additional five to six lakh dwellings would be built for the underprivileged and members of minority groups. We will also be building these residences in stages. We won't plead for cash. Mamata said, "Bengal is not a beggar," during the event held at the Purulia football field in Shimulia.

She claimed that some individuals also requested that their house applications be verified by authorities using sorasori mukhyamantri, an interface she created to make it easier for regular people to get in touch with the chief minister.

A few individuals used Sorasori Mukhyamantri to apply for houses. I will ask to get those confirmed. "We'll do it too," she said.

The chief minister said that over the next few days, she will begin paying the approximately 50 lakh recipients of the 100-day work initiative their overdue payments. "After using the Center's web, we first discovered that there were 21 lakh beneficiaries, but we now estimate that there are around 50 lakh disadvantaged workers. In a day or two, we will pay everyone who worked under the 100-day employment guarantee program their outstanding salary, said Mamata.

According to sources inside the state government, the panchayat department has determined that 58,87,260 employment card users have not received their pay since December 2021, despite having worked under the program.

"Rs 2,651 crore will be spent in total to settle the workers' debts. A source said that each employee will get a payment of Rs 4,502 crore.
