Man killed over bidi in Alipurduar tea garden

At a tea farm in Alipurduar on Sunday morning, someone reportedly killed a neighbor because they wouldn't share a cigarette.

Residents trashed the accused's home after the event, and he or she fled. When the situation was under control, police began looking for him.

According to sources, Milan Oraon, 21, who lives at the Kadambini tea plantation near the Falakata police station in the area, was smoking a bidi at approximately 10 o'clock. A worker in the same garden named Rajesh Oraon Bara requested the same butt from Milan in order to have a few puffs.

When Milan resisted giving up his bidi, the two got into a fight. The other was mistreated by both. Rajesh then pulled a pair of scissors from his pocket and stabbed Milan twice in the chest.

Rajesh ran away as Milan screamed and fell on the ground. When others arrived on the scene, they saw Milan bleeding heavily. He was sent to a Falakata super-specialty hospital where he was later declared dead.

As word got out, several locals went to Rajesh's home and trashed it.

The gathering was dispersed by a police squad.

"Rajesh is a short-tempered individual. He had before battled with individuals on a number of times over trivial matters. But we had no idea that he might kill someone for being turned down for a bidi," a senior employee claimed.

Police transported Milan's corpse to the Alipurduar district hospital later in the day for a post-mortem.

"A death has occurred in the Kadambini tea plantation. According to Y. Raghuvamshi, SP, Alipurduar, "Our police are looking into the event and looking for the offender who has eluded capture.
