Glenn Maxwell, an all-arounder for Australia, has promised to play in the IPL "until he can't walk anymore."

The 35-year-old was crucial to Australia's victory in the ODI World Cup in India. A cramping Maxwell spent much of his innings walking the ball to lead his team to victory in the group match against Afghanistan, where he scored an undefeated 201 off 128 balls. Now back home in the middle of the recently finished Twenty20 International series against India, Maxwell will make a second appearance to wear the Royal Challengers Bangalore jersey in the IPL the following year.

Maxwell was quoted by the Australian Associated Press on Wednesday at the Melbourne Airport as saying, "The IPL will probably be the last tournament I ever play, as I will play the IPL until I can't walk anymore."

I was discussing how helpful the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been to me over the course of my career, including the people I've met, the coaches I've worked under, and the international players you get to hang out with.

"For two months, you're hanging out with Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, chatting with them while watching other games. It's simply the best educational opportunity for any player, he remarked.

In order to gain experience before the T20 World Cup in June, Maxwell believes Australian cricketers should participate in the IPL.

"Hopefully, many of our Australian players will be able to travel to the Indian Premier League and work in conditions that are a little bit drier and spinnier than in the West Indies."

On Thursday, at the Gabba, Maxwell will make his Big Bash League (BBL) debut as captain of the Melbourne Stars against the Brisbane Heat.

Australia is now aiming to win the T20 world championship again after winning the ODI World Cup.

"We all discussed shifting our attention to the next World Cup as soon as we won this one," Maxwell remarked. "I'm hoping that, given what's coming up, the BBL summer will be incredibly exciting."
