Beginning on Friday at midnight, Nagpur city saw heavy rains that flooded low-lying regions and forced authorities to take action to relocate residents to safer areas.

The meteorological service reported 106 mm of rain at Nagpur Airport up to 5.30 am.

According to officials, a number of roadways and residential areas have been flooded. As a precaution, the administration has proclaimed a holiday for schools.

Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy chief minister and a native of Nagpur, announced on X that he is always keeping an eye on the city's rain situation.

"The Ambazari lake is overflowing as a result of the constant rain. Because of this, the nearby low-lying land is more severely impacted. The city's other areas are also impacted, according to his office on X.

According to Fadnavis's office, the deputy CM has directed the police commissioner, municipal commissioner, and collector of Nagpur to "immediately activate multiple teams for rescuing people who are stuck at few places."

Additionally, teams from the State Disaster Response Force and National Disaster Response Force are being sent out, according to the statement.

In the meantime, the local government relocated residents of numerous flooded regions to safer areas of the city.

People have been urged by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation not to leave their homes unless for urgent tasks. Numerous city roadways are saturated as a result of the constant rain, it stated.

In isolated locations in the Nagpur, Bhandara, and Gondia districts, "severe/moderate thunderstorm with lightning" is expected to persist, according to the Nagpur center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD). In some regions, "intense rain at isolated places" is also a possibility, according to the report.

Many locations in the Wardha district, as well as a few spots in the Chandrapur, Bhandara, and Gondia districts, are likely to have light to moderate rainfall.

It went on to say that there was a good chance of isolated areas of light rain across Amravati, Yavatmal, and Gadchiroli.
