Passenger Detained at Patna Airport for Misbehaving, Later Found to Be Mentally Ill

On Saturday, a passenger on aircraft 6E 126 from Ahmedabad to Patna was held by police at the Patna airport for reportedly misbehaving with a crew member.

Later, it was discovered that the person was mentally ill and receiving therapy for it. He was traveling with a relative, who had already told the crew of his health issues.

The individual, who goes under the name Qamar-e-Riyaz, is an engineer who lives and works in Hyderabad and is from the West Champaran area of Bihar. He traveled to Ahmedabad to meet his brother.

"He started acting erratically while flying back. He had used the restroom throughout the flight, but he resisted leaving for a very long time. He resisted being coaxed out by the crew members. He once more resisted leaving the plane when it landed in Patna and continued to speak on the phone. According to inspector Vinod Peter of the airport police station, the man was eventually forcibly removed from the plane.

"We hurried to the airport after receiving a call from IndiGo representatives. They turned him over to us after accusing him of acting inappropriately around the crew. But we saw that Riyaz was acting erratically. For instance, when we arrived at the police station, he got out of the car and began walking while wearing his shoes on his head," Peter continued.

The relative who was traveling with Riyaz claimed to have told the IndiGo crew about his health and handed the police his medical records and medicines.

The inspector of the airport police station recognized the reality of the situation and questioned why the passenger was accused of acting inappropriately with the crew when they were aware of his sickness.

"With reference to the occurrence, we have filed a complaint. On the basis of the results of the investigation, additional action will be taken. Still at the police station is Riyaz. We've asked him questions. Depending on the advice of our seniors, if everything is okay, we will let him go," Peter stated.
