Rahul Gandhi to visit poll-bound Mizoram for two days, party terms it extension of Bharat Jodo Yatra

Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, is scheduled to spend two days in Mizoram, which is scheduled to go to polls on October 16. The party is portraying this visit as more of an extension of his Bharat Jodo Yatra than an attempt to campaign for the Assembly elections on November 7.

Rahul will embark on the Yatra from Chanmari to Treasury Square, a distance of roughly 2.5 kilometres, according to Congress leaders The Telegraph spoke with. There, he would “meet people and listen to their problems and concerns,” just as he did during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which ran from September 7, 2022, to January 30, this year.

Rahul's visit was announced by the Congress on Friday. While the schedule is still being finalized, it will essentially consist of a yatra from Chanmari to Raj Bhawan on Monday, followed by meetings with youth, religious leaders, and political figures.

He is scheduled to hold a rally/yatra in southern Mizoram, most likely at Lunglei, the next day. On October 18, he will give a speech at a media conference before departing. A Congress leader stated, "We see it as an extension of the Bharat Jodo Yatra."

When the Congress announced the visit, it released a media note citing the Yatra, its goal, and the beneficial effects it has had on the party's electoral fortunes in Karnataka and the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council polls. This made it clear that the Congress is pitching it as an extension of the Yatra.

The Congress media statement attacked the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) and the opposition BJP, saying, "The main reason for the Yatra is to raise the voice of the people as the BJP government has sowed seeds of mistrust and promoted divisive policies among the citizens, under the BJP's rule the people find themselves without a voice and are in despair."

In order to continue serving as the voice and defender of the people of Mizoram, as he has done for the entire country, Rahul Gandhi is expanding his tour to that region. According to the release, "his visit to Mizoram is another chance for the people to interact with a leader who has been steadfast in his commitment to representing their interests."

In order to propagate the message of love, peace, and secularism, the state unit also issued posters featuring the Bharat Jodo Yatra emblem on its Whatsapp group, urging people to participate in the walk.
